Opens the MakerFaire Kuwait Global Exhibition 2020
His
Excellency, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khaled Nasser Al-Rawdhan, representing
His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al Sabah, has opened the
MakerFaire – Kuwait Exhibition 2020, which is organized by Kuwait Investment
Company for the fourth successive year at the Exhibitions Land in Mishref, in
Hall No. 8, for 5 days from 11 to 15 February.
On this
occasion, Minister Al-Rawdhan made a statement in which he said: “By opening
the 4th Kuwaiti version of MakerFaire Exhibition 2020, we continue to carry out the
directions of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber
Al-Sabah, to support, sponsor and adopt the pioneering Kuwaiti projects,
especially those that are related to industry and technology, even handicrafts
that will contribute to bringing about a qualitative shift in the Kuwaiti
industry in line with the Kuwait 2035 Vision.”
The Minister added:
“we have seen pioneering products conceived and made by young Kuwaitis, male
and female. It is gratifying to see projects created by young people from
a number of Arab and foreign countries,
for whom Kuwait opened its doors through this grand exhibition which is
becoming increasingly important in this sector. I would like to seize this
opportunity to commend the organizers of this event and urge them to ensure the
high-standard of every future annual version of MakerFaire in order to make
every such exhibition a source of pride that is worthy of being held under
Kuwaiti auspices. It would make me even happier and proud to see these projects
gain recognition and attain the highest levels of appreciation in order for
them and their makers to play a vital role within the Kuwaiti industry.”
Speaking on
the occasion of the exhibition, Kuwait Investment Company’s Chairman, Dr.
Yousef Al-Ali, said: “The Company
readily carried the responsibility for organizing the MakerFaire Exhibition
2020 for the fourth year in a row, and holding this prestigious event under the
patronage and with the support of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah
Al-Ahmed. We strongly believe in the ability of Kuwaitis to create added value
for the fruits of their creativity and
their nascent projects. Through this Exhibition, Kuwait Investment Company
seeks to highlight those creative products and projects and to underscore the
fact that the most qualified among these deserve to be adopted and sponsored.”
From his side,
the Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait
Investment Company, Mr. Bader Al-Subaie,
indicated the higher number of participations in the preset version of
the Exhibition, from Kuwait and from Arab and foreign countries, to reach 12
countries which presented 179 projects selected by the jury committee out of a
total of 540 projects which had applied for registration at the Exhibition.
Along with the State of Kuwait, the participating countries were Saudi Arabia,
Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Egypt, Jordan,
Lebanon and Iran.
Al-Subaie
stated: “Year after year, we are increasingly being fascinated by the
participating projects. Indeed, most of
them deserve such support as would enable them to continue to pursue and
achieve commercial and industrial progress.
This fact underlines the success of the Exhibition from year to year.
Needless to say, Kuwait Investment Company has made tremendous efforts in
organizing this global event that brings together industries and creative works that have
earned the appreciation and respect of many at all levels. The Company has
achieve a huge success within this framework, particularly since some of those
projects that had participated in earlier versions of the Exhibition received
extensive support and have represented the State of Kuwait at a number of international forums and
exhibitions. Kuwait Investment Company has, through this Exhibition, achieved
its general objective of promoting the various fields of industrial activity as
well as the technology sector with a view to promote the emblem “Made in
Kuwait”, thereby contributing to the efforts designed to transform its economy
from being a single-income economy to a sustainable economy.”
